Girls Grammar Music – Endless Possibilities

Rockhampton Girls Grammar School is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive and extensive music program. An understanding, appreciation and love of music is something students can take with them through their lives and we aim to build students’ confidence and self-esteem, through music performance opportunities.

The school has a renowned program including choirs, stage band, chamber groups, string ensemble and concert band. Students can be involved in these various ensembles as well as having the opportunity to participate in private tuition with experienced and motivated studio teachers.

A student participating in private tuition requires no previous musical experience but once undertaking lessons each student is encouraged to involve themselves in at least one of the applicable music ensembles/events available to them. Private instrumental and/or vocal tuition is available for students from Prep to Year 12 and new student enrolment into the program will occur at the commencement of each semester.

Currently the Instrumental program covers tuition on the following instruments:

  • Piano
  • Voice
  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Cello
  • Double Bass
  • Guitar
  • Ukulele
  • Flute
  • Piccolo
  • Clarinet
  • Bass Clarinet
  • Saxophone (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone)
  • Trumpet/ Cornet
  • Tuba
  • Euphonium
  • Trombone
  • French Horn
  • Oboe
  • Auxiliary percussion (snare, bass drum, triangle, cymbals, chimes etc.) and tuned percussion (xylophone, glockenspiel, timpani)

Girls Grammar is pleased to offer the free use of instruments to students who sign up early for instrumental lessons. Availability is dependent upon demand. We hope this will provide students with an opportunity to explore the rewards of playing an instrument.

Parents and students are also encouraged to contact the Music Centre for information in relation to the Program. The Music Centre is open from 7.45 am to 4.15 pm every School day.
