Rockhampton Girls Grammar School has a unique mixture of proud history combined with contemporary thinking.
Set atop Athelstane Range overlooking Rockhampton in Central Queensland, we are fortunate to be custodians of heritage buildings and long standing traditions, while embracing change and innovation.
Our School is regarded as a leading centre of education for girls of all ages, and offers a continuum in education from Prep through to Year 12. We cater for both day students and boarders. Modern educational philosophies are embedded in the traditions and values of Girls Grammar.
Girls Grammar is an independent non-denominational school for girls offering day and boarding facilities for the continuous education of students from Prep to Year 12 with boarding from Year 6. Our students come from diverse backgrounds across the state, the Northern Territory and internationally.
Besides offering excellent educational opportunities for primary and secondary school students in Central Queensland, continuing students also have access to the Central Queensland University (CQUni) which has established a first-class reputation for its educational offerings, particularly in Business, Health and Engineering.
The School also works in partnership with the Rockhampton College of TAFE (now merged with CQU) which offers an excellent variety of courses and study options for girls seeking to broaden their education.
The School provides a smooth transition across four levels: Early Learning (P-2), Primary School (Years 3- 6), Middle School (Years 7-9) and Senior School (Years 10-12).
Boarding students are accommodated in three separate boarding houses (Kollar, Jackson and Luck). Kollar House provides single rooms for senior students. PC tablets, with the latest Microsoft and Adobe productivity suites installed, are provided for both learning and enjoyment for all students in Years 4-12. Connection of personal School laptops to our secure, filtered wired and wireless network across the entire campus maximises cyber safety and easy communication with home such as Skype.
Based on our experience, we know that single-sex education offers girls the greatest chance to ignore stereotypes, develop strong self worth and grow in confidence. More and more research is showing that girls achieve and learn better in girls-only schools. At Girls Grammar girls have pride of place in the classroom, working with technology, on the sports field and on the stage. In an all-girls environment equal opportunity is not an issue, because girls get every opportunity.
Our students enrich our School community, and when your daughter joins Rockhampton Girls Grammar School she will walk down the same path as generations of amazing women before her who have experienced our unique educational environment, and moved on to make a difference in the world.
Modern educational philosophies are embedded in the traditions and values of Girls Grammar. When your daughter joins the Girls Grammar family she gains a ‘Big Sister’ who maintains contact throughout her schooling and often beyond. All staff are helpful and approachable and offer tutorials for students. Our registered Nurse is on duty every day in the Health Centre and Care Mentors support every student. The Director of Boarding and Student Welfare is also available to assist in providing strategies to manage stress or personal concerns.
Every girl from Prep to Year 12 deserves the opportunity to realise her full potential, to draw forth her talents and discover new ones, in a setting where she is valued for who she is and what she brings to the learning journey. This is what we offer at Rockhampton Girls Grammar, and our excellent graduates demonstrate this. Girls Grammar girls are CLEVER, CONFIDENT and CONNECTED.
Transport to and from School
Rockhampton Girls Grammar School offers a bus run to Northside residences, Gracemere and Yeppoon Hill Street bus stop.
Students can be collected at a pre-arranged point and transferred in air-conditioned, seat-belted safety to and from the School for a minimal fee.
Out of School Hours Care
We acknowledge the pressures and hectic schedules that affect today’s families and lifestyle and offer an After School Care and Vacation Care program. There is also free supervised play at the School from 7.15 am on school days.
An excellent education is affordable
Many families are pleasantly surprised at just how affordable a private school education is, and find that it is a reasonable amount to pay for peace of mind in knowing your daughter will have access to the Girls Grammar Advantage . In fact, Prep School fees can be approximately a quarter of the price of childcare! It’s definitely worth exploring as part of your family’s budget, and HER FUTURE.
Interactive Learning Technologies
Rockhampton Girls Grammar School is committed to providing a rich, contemporary, challenging education for young women. The Year 4 to Year 12 Personal Laptop Program is complemented by our wireless network meaning our girls have wireless network access in all teaching spaces. Our Internet access is filtered and monitored 24 hours a day. During the school day our internet filter restricts access to social networking sites and streaming media sites which could act as a distraction.
The Laptop Program allows the school to ensure that the required software is available to students, that devices are sufficiently powerful to meet curriculum requirements, that computers are robust and quickly repaired. The laptops remain the property of the School, but are in the full time care of students for their personal use for three years, after which they will be replaced with new models. We have implemented a rolling replacement program which will ensure that all Year 7 and Year 10 students receive new computers to support their next three years of schooling.
