Collins Writing Program Conference

Rockhampton Girls Grammar School was proud to introduce to Australia, Rebecca DeSmith, presenter of the internationally renowned ‘Collins Writing Program’  from Boston Massachusetts on Tuesday 17 February. Over 80 delegates from Queensland and New South Wales joined Girls Grammar to participate in a full day workshop that explored ways to improve students writing.

Writing data in Australia has worsened  in the last two NAPLAN tests.  This program, sourced from a leadership course at Harvard University, provides strategies to ensure that writing that occurs in classroom is meaningful and develops the skills of students.  Schools which have used the Collins strategies have seen dramatic and sustained improvement in their writing data – going against the national trend.

Girls Grammar is proud to work in conjunction with educators from across the private, catholic and public education systems to bring real change to student learning.

Rowing at Girls Grammar

Rowing is Growing at Girls Grammar.

During the Christmas Holidays two very keen Girls Grammar rowers prepared for the Queensland and Australian Championship Regattas. This involved a lot of practice in Rockhampton and very little time at home in Alpha. January 23 and 24 was the Queensland Regatta at Lake Wyalong near Beaudesert. Grace and Emma Kennedy competed in five Under 19 and 21 events. The results were very good in high quality fields. Combining with other rowers from Emmaus and Glenmore, the Girls achieved 2nd in U19 fours, 3rd
in U21 Quad, 4th in U19 Pairs 5th in U19 Quads. The next event the Kennedy Sisters are preparing for is the Australian Championships in Sydney on the Olympic rowing course, March 14 -21.
