Boarding Bulletin – Term 3 Week 8

September 14, 2018 at 3:23 pm

Where has the term gone? Next Friday we will conclude Term 3 with the annual Naarah’s Touch Competition. The day will finish at 12:45 pm followed by Learning Conversations for Year 7 -12 from 1:30 – 6:00pm. This is a great opportunity for you to speak with teachers about your daughter’s academic progress. If you have not already booked an interview, you are still able to do so online through Parent Lounge.

It has been a very busy few weeks in boarding with camp week, Year 10 work experience and QCS. The girls returned from various camp venues, very positive and they enjoyed the experience. Our Year 10 girls, although very tired by Friday, were also positive about their experience and the work opportunities they had in the region.

We also welcomed Leena Russo, our new Chef! The boarders have been most impressed with Leena’s menus and food presentation. Leena is currently working with a group of boarders to design a four -week rotational menu. I am also in the process of conducting a food survey across the school where the girls will be able to make suggestions regarding new food items and healthy options. The results of the survey will be forwarded to Leena and the Spotless Team (Alliance) to assist in finalising the menus and meeting student/staff dietary needs.

This weekend the girls will be busy packing and cleaning their rooms in preparation for the end of term. We will have over 150 billets using our boarding facilities during the first week of the holidays. The girls will need to ensure they have all their belongings locked away or placed in the storage rooms. Our billets arrive 12 noon Friday.

At the end of this term we will farewell one of our Boarding Supervisors, Ms Trudie Petrie. Ms Petrie has been fantastic in driving our boarders to local venues and she played a major part in Sunday Golf and Softball on the oval. I wish Ms Petrie all the very best in the future.

We welcome to boarding, Miss Claudia Donaldson from Alpha, who will be assisting in the Junior Dorm at weekends. Miss Donaldson completed her schooling as a boarder at Stuartholme School in Brisbane and is currently completing a Bachelor of Nursing at CQU. Having experienced boarding life herself, Claudia will be fantastic support to our girls. Welcome Claudia!

The girls will finish the weekend activities for the term with a sports day on the oval and a “Dinner in Pyjamas” at McKeague hall on Sunday evening.

Weekend Activities – 14, 15, 16 September

Have a great weekend and I look forward to catching up if you are in Rockhampton next week.
