When working with teenagers food is an important consideration. Boys want quantity, girls are more discerning and are looking for quality. We work as a team at Girls Grammar to ensure the girls are getting both what they need and what they would like. This can be quite a task. The girls have the opportunity to meet with the chef twice a term to discuss the menu at our Boarding Food Meeting. This is a great chance for the girls to ask for what they would like to see more or less of. We also have themed dinners during the year. This week we had Christmas in July and the girls enjoyed roast turkey with all of the trimmings. The catering staff always decorate the dining room for the themed dinner nights. We also celebrate Valentines Dinner, St Patricks Day, Easter, Melbourne Cup, Halloween and Pink Day themed dinners throughout the year. A highlight of the year is Harmony and Diversity week where we enjoy foods from different cultures each day. We pride ourselves on the fresh food offerings at Girls Grammar. The vegetables used are fresh, not frozen and there is whole and cut fruit available every day.
This week I met with the Chef and Facilities Manager to discuss the offering in our dining room.
