At Rockhampton Girls Grammar School, we believe that raising girls is not just the responsibility of parents alone but a community endeavour that thrives on teamwork and collaboration. This idea was highlighted during our recent Grandparents Day in Prep, where we welcomed grandmas, grandpas, and other important caregivers into our school. What followed was a unique opportunity for families to engage with their children’s learning, fostering connections that strengthen our school community. There was so much joy and happiness in the room!
Grandparents play a vital role in their grandchildren's lives, often imparting wisdom and values and even lost skills like sewing that complement what the girls learn at school. Social and emotional development is at the heart of the work that we do as a Brainwise School and it was encouraging to see families coming together, sharing stories, and participating in activities that reinforced the sense of belonging and support we know is crucial for growth.
Another opportunity for teamwork unfolded during the Year 4 textiles project, where students collaborated with parents, grandparents, and aunts to create wallaby and joey pouches for a local wildlife carer. This provided students with hands-on experience in sewing but also highlighted the importance of working together for a good cause. Families came together to donate materials and then cut, pin, iron and sew, demonstrating that when we unite, we can make a significant impact with over twenty pouches sewed and delivered to save wildlife in our region. Thank you too for Ms Caz Walker and Mrs Emily Alley, our Textiles Crew, for giving up their time.
Transition Days further emphasise our commitment to fostering connections within our school community. In Week 8, new parents and students joined current families, allowing everyone to meet their teachers for 2025 and participate in sister activities. These opportunities bridge gaps between year levels and ensures that every student feels welcomed and supported. It was a busy morning with a panic room, other fun challenges, and lots of get to know you activities!
At Girls Grammar, connection and community are two of our guiding principles, so we were so thrilled to share several whole school events in these last few weeks. Girls Rock was an outstanding success with both primary choirs performing, Speech Night allowed us to celebrate the students’ efforts inside the classroom and finally on the last day of school term our 2024 School Party allowed us to celebrate an incredible year together. Well done Primary. It has been such fun acting as your Director this last term and we look forward to seeing Mrs Jacqui Goltz again in 2025.
