This past week has been a remarkable celebration of leadership at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School, reinforcing the importance we place on developing confident, capable young women who embrace opportunities and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Leadership is central to our school's mission and purpose—empowering and inspiring our students to step forward with courage, integrity, and a deep sense of connection to those around them.
Secondary Investiture Ceremony
One of the highlights of the week was the Secondary Investiture Ceremony, where we formally inducted our 2025 student leaders. Our Year 12 Seniors were officially recognised as the guiding voices of our school community, embracing their responsibility to lead with integrity and care. Among them, our Year 12 Prefects have taken on their respective leadership portfolios, while our two Head Girls were honoured with the most prestigious leadership roles in our school. Congratulations to Cadence Wone De Rungs, announced as Helen E Downs Head Prefect, and Ella Davison, announced as Prue McKeague Head Prefect. Both titles carry great responsibility and are held in the highest regard within our school community.
During this ceremony, we also invested our Student Council representatives from Years 7 to 11, who will play an integral role in ensuring student voice is heard and valued across the school. Congratulations to:
Year 7: Heidi Atkinson, Summa Mohr
Year 8: Bella Hinz, Lucy Roebig
Year 9: Josie Jacobs, Abby Sainsbury
Year 10: Ruby Bell, Umna Umer
Year 11: Alissa Fort, Lydia Johnstone
These students have been entrusted by their peers to represent them with pride and dedication, and we look forward to their contributions throughout the year.
Guest Speaker – Alix Jasperson
A special highlight of our Secondary Investiture Ceremony was welcoming back Girls Grammar Alumna Alix Jasperson as our guest speaker. As the daughter of an Old Girl, Alix shared her reflections on her time at school and the enduring legacy of Girls Grammar. Her connection to our school continues into the next generation, with her daughter Peppa commencing Prep this year, carrying on the proud tradition of strong, confident Girls Grammar women.
Primary Investiture Ceremony
Our Primary Investiture Ceremony was another special occasion where our Year 6 students pledged their leadership of the Primary School. These students will set a strong example for their younger peers, demonstrating responsibility, integrity, and kindness in all they do.
Additionally, our Year 4-6 Student Council representatives were formally invested into their roles, ensuring that leadership and student voice are fostered from an early age.
Congratulations to:
Year 4: Tristha Sharma, Asher Anderson
Year 5: Ivy Petersen, Charlotte Hodgetts
Year 6: Sophia Wall, Olivia Atkinson
Regional Leadership Induction
Further reinforcing our commitment to leadership development, Deputy Principal – Students, Kathy King, and I had the honour of accompanying our ten Prefects to the Rockhampton Secondary Schools Student Leaders Induction Ceremony at St Joseph’s Cathedral. It was a proud moment to see our girls introduced by name and Prefect Portfolio, standing with confidence among student leaders from across the region. During the afternoon tea that followed, our Prefects embodied both confidence and connection, engaging with student leaders from other secondary schools across Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast, forging relationships that will strengthen collaboration and shared initiatives in the year ahead.
Leadership Beyond a Badge
At Girls Grammar, leadership is not defined by a badge but by the actions and qualities that inspire others. Whether leading from the front as a Prefect, guiding peers as a Student Council member, or demonstrating kindness and courage in everyday interactions, every student has the capacity to make a meaningful impact. Our school is built on a legacy of strong, empowered young women who embrace opportunity, and we are proud to see this tradition continue.
To our 2025 Seniors, Prefects, and Student Council representatives, both in our Primary and Secondary Schools—congratulations. We look forward to your contributions, your successes, and the way you will shape and strengthen our school community throughout the year ahead.
