This week, the Prep and Year One students at our school were treated to an exciting and informative session with a visit from the local police officers Senior Constable Adam Pratt and Senior Constable Leicha Edwards.
The visit began with an informative session in the classroom learning about the role of the police and the various equipment which is worn on the vest and belt. The girls loved learning about the camera and seeing themselves on the screen. Students also learned about the importance of knowing their address, calling 000 in emergencies, and identifying responsible adults who can help them in times of need.
The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the opportunity to explore the police car and sit behind the wheel, turn on the lights and sirens and learn about the array of gadgets and buttons in the vehicle. The excitement didn't end there, the girls also had the opportunity to try out a pair of real handcuffs! Both classes enjoyed watching Miss Spence and Mrs Shaw blow into the breathalyser – luckily, both teachers passed the breath test with flying colours!
To end the visit, the girls received goody bags filled with police-themed colouring and stickers. This experience not only brought excitement to the girls but also served as an educational opportunity, fostering positive relationships with the police. This is sure to be one of the top highlights of the year!
