During the first week of Term 4, Molly and I had the opportunity to attend the SPARQ-Ed biomedical research program. Throughout the week, we engaged in various activities such as micro-pipetting, cell counting, and cell washing. Additionally, we explored the effect of Dynamin Inhibitor on Endocytosis in Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
This program was particularly eye-opening for those of us considering a career in biomedical research, as it allowed us to experiment and gain insights into a different aspect of medicine.
Over the course of five days, we delved into understanding the effect of endocytosis in squamous cell carcinoma. This involved learning about the relevant terms and their functions within the human body.
Our tutor, Professor Fiona Simpson, has conducted significant research on high-concentration dynamin inhibitors, which prevent proteins from entering cells and thereby inhibit cancer growth. She, along with Liwang Zhang and other tutors, explained these concepts to us in detail.
The Brisbane program was an incredible experience that broadened our horizons and taught us a great deal.
