Getting to Know Our School Community - P&F Committee

The Parents and Friends (P&F) Association is a vital part of Rockhampton Girls Grammar School; offering an opportunity for parents and friends to stay informed and contribute to the community spirit and success of the school while providing additional services, facilities and amenities for our students.

This week we get to know the hardworking committee of our Parents and Friends Association.

President - Sharon Graham-Hohn

Sharon has a daughter that has been in the School since Prep; she is now in Year 7.

Sharon has been involved in the P&F for just under three years and has been President for just under two. She joined the P&F as she believed in the school and wanted to make a difference in supporting our teachers with some much-needed equipment.

Sharon would like to see more people involved. Meetings are held on the first Thursday evening of every month and is a great opportunity to meet new people. To join, visit https://www.rggs.qld.edu.au/parents-and-friends-association-inc.

Vice-President - Liz Curtis

Liz became a committee member of the P&F in 2019. She decided to join the committee to become part of the Girls Grammar community and to give back to the school.

Liz, herself is a former Girls Grammar girl ('Old Girl') so it was not a hard choice to send her two daughters to Rockhampton Girls Grammar. She believes the School instills great values into students so they become strong and independent women (something that was ingrained into her during her school years) and is one of the reasons she decided to enrol her daughters. Liz has fond memories of her schooling at Girls Grammar and wants the same for her girls.

Liz is self-employed, owning a livestock transport company with her husband and together they have four children, two girls and two boys. Her hobbies include tennis, camping, sewing and gardening. Her biggest passion is netball. She loves to play, watch the game and involve herself in any way possible. This love for netball has found her in the new position of Netball Coordinator for the school. She has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the girls and their parents and sharing her knowledge about netball to the next generation. The growth and improvement she has seen in each and every player this year has made her very proud to be part of the Girls Grammar community.

Secretary - Nicola Simpson

Nicola is a mother to three children, Richie, 8, Eve, 6 (in Year 1) and Lucy, 3, a future Girls Grammar student. She is also a primary school teacher, currently working part time as a supply teacher at various schools across Rockhampton, including Rockhampton Girls Grammar School.

Nicola and her family have been in Rockhampton for about 12 months now and daughter Eve started in Prep about this time last year. They love the nurturing, close-knit community feeling at Girls Grammar. Nicola is also a huge supporter of all girls' schooling which is why they chose to send their daughter here. Nicola's husband's family also has a long history with the school, Eve being the fourth generation to attend.

Nicola enjoys helping with school events as she knows how precious parents' time is and believes that many hands make light work, which is why she joined the P&F. Raising funds and helping to organise exciting events for the students is what she likes most about being on the P&F committee.

Treasurer - Jacqui Goltz

Jacqui is the Director of Primary and Year 6 teacher who originally began her involvement with the P&F Association as a general member, assisting with Bulls and Barrels each year. In 2019, she stepped into the secretary role and then officially took on this position in 2020. 2021 was a big year coordinating Bulls ‘n’ Barrels for the first time with Liz Curtis. A change of venue and a new executive team meant they were continually learning how to run this event and the requirements needed to make it a success. Moving over into the treasurer role in 2022 enables her to continue working with the School to raise funds and have a say in how the P&F Association supports and benefits staff and students at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School.
