This week we have been celebrating National Boarding Week in style.
So many activities and celebrations, most have been organised by Miss Hawkswood, and facilitated by the boarding supervisors. Mrs Ung has sewn a patchwork quilt which has quotes from the girls written on it. It is on display in Reception and it will go up in the dorm next week. The girls have enjoyed games and activities each day. Year 12 girls have hosted tours for the primary classes of the boarding houses which have been a big hit. There have been envelopes set up for the boarders to write messages to the staff and we have recorded girls thanking their parents and families.
Assembly was all about Boarding this week. I spoke about my journey to this role and what the girls, my staff and I do in boarding. Boarders, Jess and Shania talked about home and Camryn did a fantastic address about our wonderful boarding community. The highlight was Megan and Camryn recording a day in the life of a Year 12 boarder which has been shared on our Girls Grammar social media and on the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA) website. They managed to record on one of the only rainy days in Rockhampton so we will be able to look back at that when we forget what rain looks like.
Our boarders come from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. Living in a boarding community is unique and rich and our girls have so many opportunities and experiences. The girls make friends, are exposed to people that they wouldn’t ordinarily meet in their lives at home, and experience cultures, food and opinions that are wide and varied.
We will finish our week with the Formal on Saturday evening and a sausage sizzle at the Grammar school on Sunday with all the boarding schools in the area invited.
Thank you to everyone who has made National Boarding Week so special for us.
