After the first school regatta of the season being postponed due to some pesky crocodiles taking up residence too close to the rowing course, the Girls Grammar Rowing team got their first hit out on Saturday. The team of Calli, Georgia, Ella, Kirsten, Lillian, and Ellexis had a successful day coming away with quite a few ribbons.
Georgia, Calli, Ella and Kirsten placed 2nd in opens girls 2000m quad
Georgia and Calli combined for a 4th place in the mixed pair 2000m
Georgia placed 1st and Calli placed 3rd in the opens girls 2000m single skull
Ella placed 3rd in the division 3 open girls 2000m single skull
Kirsten and Lillian came 4th in the 500m novice double skull
Kirsten and Lillian joined forces with two Emmaus girls to place 1st in the 500m novice quad
Ellexis was a late addition. She came to the rescue of the Emmaus team, filling the place of an Emmaus boy who had withdrawn last minute with illness. Ellexis held her own with her male teammates placing 3rd in novice boys 500m quad, 2nd in the 1000m quad and 2nd in 500m novice double skull.
It was very exciting to see our new rowers Kirsten and Lilian compete under race conditions for the very first time, their development has been outstanding in such a short time.
Our next regatta is 24 and 25 June where our girls will compete in the CQ Schools Championships.
