Girls Grammar Year 8 Leadership Camp: Strengthening Skills, Building Memories

The Year 8 cohort travelled to PCYC Yeppoon for three days of fun-filled activities on our annual camp. The main focus of this camp was to strengthen leadership skills, teamwork, and self-belief skills, by participating in various activities including rock-climbing, kayaking, canoeing, raft-building, laser skirmish, beach activities and orienteering. These activities required us to get out of our comfort zone and work together to achieve tasks. On Day 1 we travelled down to Yeppoon and started by exploring the beach where we saw a sea snake that had washed up. The afternoon saw us battle it out in Laser Skirmish with the blue team thrashing the red team. We headed back to the beach for an afternoon swim and some beach games before finishing the day with a movie and some downtime before a big day of activities on Tuesday.

Day 2 saw us waking up bright and early to head down to the Causeway Lake. This was a real test of our teamwork and leadership skills with raft building, kayaking, and canoeing. After lunch, Group 1 and Group 2 had a very competitive game of beach cricket with Group 2 coming out on top. We then finished the night with a game of spotlight.

On our final day, while one group was conquering their fear of heights with rock climbing, the other group was strengthening their orienteering skills with a treasure hunt. The teams swapped activities before lunch and our camp finished with some team games before departing to head home.

This camp was one we will never forget, and we would like to thank Mrs Doherty, Mrs Houseman, Mr Fuller and all PCYC staff that made this camp possible. Especially the catering staff because the food was amazing!
