Joyful Announcements and Fond Farewells: Staff News

We are thrilled to share some wonderful news about three of our staff members who are eagerly awaiting new additions to their families.

Firstly, we are delighted to announce the engagement of our Deputy Principal - Students, Ms Sammy Cobon, to her partner Tim. Adding to their joy, Sammy and Tim are expecting their first child in January! As Sammy prepares for this exciting new chapter, the Deputy Principal - Students role has been advertised as a 12-month contract starting in early December 2024. We encourage interested candidates to apply through the link on Seek, our social media channels, or our website https://www.rggs.qld.edu.au/employment

Next, we send our warmest wishes to Ms Matilda (Tilly) Lorraway, who will begin her maternity leave at the start of Term 4. Tilly and her husband, Henrique, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their second child in November. We are currently recruiting for the Boarding Administration Assistant position, which will be a contract role from September until June 2025 when Tilly returns to Girls Grammar.

Our congratulations also go to Counsellor Claire Jarrett and her husband Fletcher, who are expecting their second child in November. We are actively recruiting for Claire's role, with interviews already underway to ensure a smooth transition. The new counsellor will commence from the start of Term 4 and continue until December 2025, when Claire is expected to return in January 2026.

As we celebrate these joyous announcements, it is with heartfelt emotion that we announce the departure of Mrs Di Mallyon, who has been an integral part of our school community for 11 years. Mrs Mallyon has made the difficult decision to step down from her role, with her last day being  6 September. Her presence will be greatly missed by both staff and students alike.

In her own words, Di reflects on her time here:

'As I wrap up my time at school, I can’t help but reflect on how much I’ve enjoyed working at Girls Grammar for the past 10 years. It has been an honour and a privilege to witness the students’ enthusiasm and progress from their first day at school and for some, their final years graduating. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their educational journey and will cherish the connections we’ve made. As I turn the page to a new chapter and take a leap of faith with my next career move, I want to extend my best wishes to our seniors for their upcoming external exams next term.'

As a school community, we often find ourselves in the bittersweet position of welcoming new faces while bidding farewell to those who have become a cherished part of our daily lives. Schools are ever-evolving places where educators leave indelible marks on the hearts and minds of students. Mrs Mallyon’s influence and dedication have undoubtedly shaped the lives of many, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all members of our staff who are beginning new chapters in their lives, whether that be welcoming a new baby or embarking on an exciting new career journey. Your contributions to our school will always be remembered, and we wish you every success in your future endeavours.
