This term I would like to address the students of Girls Grammar:
As we approach the final assessments of the academic year, it’s essential for you to remain focused and committed to your studies. This is a critical time where all the hard work and effort of previous months culminate, and it's a chance for you to demonstrate your learning, growth, and resilience.
Firstly to our Year 12 students amid final external exams: This is a time of mixed emotions - excitement for the future, a sense of accomplishment, and perhaps a little nervousness about the unknown. Each of you has worked incredibly hard, not just over the past year, but throughout your entire schooling journey. You’ve overcome challenges, grown in countless ways, and developed the skills and character that will carry you forward into the next chapter of your lives.
Staying engaged through to the end of the year is particularly important. These last few weeks also provide an opportunity to solidify your knowledge, refine your skills, and prepare for the challenges ahead.
As you move on, know that the lessons learned here go far beyond the curriculum. You’ve learned to think critically, to collaborate with others, to persevere when things are tough, and to manage your time and responsibilities. These skills are just as valuable as any academic knowledge you’ve gained, and they will serve you well in whatever path you choose to pursue.
While you may be leaving the familiar structure of school behind, remember that learning doesn’t stop here. The world beyond these gates offers infinite opportunities for growth, and we encourage you to remain curious, to seek out new experiences, and to continue challenging yourselves. Whether you’re heading to university, starting a job, or taking time to explore your passions, know that your education has prepared you to face whatever lies ahead with confidence.
As you embark on this new journey, carry with you the memories of your time here - the friendships, the triumphs, the challenges, and the moments of joy. You are now part of a broader community of alumni, and while you may no longer walk these halls every day, you will always be a valued member of our school family.
For all of us, one of the key things to remember is that consistent effort leads to long-term success. It can be tempting to ease off as the holidays come closer, but maintaining focus now will help you finish strong and avoid the stress of last-minute cramming. The skills you have developed in managing your time effectively, setting priorities, and pushing through fatigue will serve you well, not just in school but in life beyond the classroom.
We encourage you to set short-term goals to keep yourselves on track. Break your larger tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces, and celebrate each achievement along the way. Whether it's completing a chapter, revising a difficult concept, or finalising a project, every step forward is progress.
It’s also important to maintain a healthy balance. Make sure you're taking care of yourself both mentally and physically. Regular breaks, healthy meals, and a good night's sleep will keep you energised and focused. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers or peers for support.
Lastly, remember that your learning journey is ongoing. Even though the school year may be ending soon, education continues in all aspects of life. Stay curious, ask questions, and look for ways to apply what you’ve learned in practical, real-world situations.
We are confident in your ability to finish this year with determination and pride, and we look forward to celebrating your achievements with you. Stay focused, stay positive, and keep working towards your goals!
