Mid-Term Momentum: Celebrating Achievements and Looking Ahead to Exciting March Events at Girls Grammar

It’s hard to believe that we’ve already reached the half-way point of the term. And what an action packed five weeks it has been, with more to come throughout March.

Earlier this month our Parents and Friends Association held their first meeting and AGM for 2024. It was a huge turnout with 23 parents in attendance, with roughly half of those being new parents to Girls Grammar this year.

Congratulations to our 2024 P&F Executive who were elected on the evening;

                President:             Luke Brunsmann (re-elected)

                Vice President: Missy Lynch

                Treasurer:            Nathan Goldman

                Secretary:            Brooke Kershaw

On behalf of all students, I wish to express sincere thanks and appreciation to our P&F for their hard work and dedication to benefit of our girls’ education, in particular the significant donation this year to upgrade the Discovery Centre Playground. We are at the final design stage with the project planned to commence in early Term 2. Ongoing support from parents, in particular the many new families in 2024 is greatly appreciated with plans for the first P&F event well underway. Keep an eye out for the P&F Trivia Night flyer soon to be advertised with a fun theme for the evening on Saturday, 23 March. The next P&F meeting is Thursday, 7 March at 6.00pm in Luck 1 and it would be wonderful to see the enthusiastic turnout from 1 February maintained.

On the theme of collaboration, fundraising and giving back, our Prefects and senior students did a marvellous job on Valentines Day last week. A highly anticipated event for our Year 12 students, donning togas, red and heart themed accessories, our girls spread love, appreciation and kindness school-wide, through their singing, chocolate, lollypop and floral deliveries. Fresh roses again this year were a sell-out, with the addition of larger rose bunches proving extremely popular. Thank you to parents and staff who supported this fundraiser with money raised going towards the Year 12’s senior gift back to the school.

The theme of Kindness and Respect in 2024, is being felt school-wide with the Grow Kindness Challenge unveiled last week. Thanks to Deputy Principal - Students, Ms Cobon and Student Wellbeing Prefect, Kelsie Bennett this secondary school challenge where students nominate peers for random acts of kindness they have seen has been embraced strongly, with half of the nomination goal total achieved in one week! The introduction of Wellbeing Wednesdays will add to our theme of Kindness and Respect.

Community minded initiatives are being brought forward by student council, highlighting the importance of giving back and thinking of those who are in need.

The first of these initiatives that Girls Grammar will be supporting will be on Friday, 8 March where we acknowledge International Women’s Day and attend school dressed as a woman we admire, who inspires us or has had a positive influence on us.  The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is Inspire Inclusion, a message that is highly relevant to us as a school and in particular an all-girls Prep-12 school. To mark IWD and just like last year, Girls Grammar will be contributing every day necessities to women who are less fortunate than ourselves. Details on goods to donate and the timeframe can be found on the attached flyer and on our school socials. I look forward to seeing everyone in their International Women’s Day attire, and most importantly, hear the reasons for their choices.
