During the Christmas break, we were fortunate to have brand new Fibre optic network cables installed to each of our buildings, enabling a faster and more robust network. Previously, some buildings were connected through others, but now each building has a direct connection, ensuring greater network reliability and resilience for our staff and students.
In conjunction with the new Fibre optic cables, we also provisioned our new server room built in a functional and purpose-built area. This transition required the entire network and server infrastructure of our school to be shut down, physically relocated, and powered back on. Naturally, this caused a temporary interruption to all on-site services. Both Mr Cook and I dedicated many hours to this changeover, including thorough testing. As expected with a major project like this, there were a few initial issues the following day. However, these were swiftly resolved, allowing staff and students to resume activities as normal. We extend our thanks to everyone involved in the project, the many months of planning really paid off in the end.
Additionally, we were able to upgrade the technology in the newly refurbished discovery classrooms. This included the installation of new interactive flat panel displays, wireless presentation devices, extra screens for breakout spaces, additional networking equipment, and the relocation of noisy network and security equipment out of the classrooms to minimise distractions.
We are looking forward to bringing more improvements to classrooms over the coming year.
