Interschool Netball Finals
Last week marked the conclusion of the 2024 Secondary Interschool Netball Competition, featuring the semi-finals on Thursday evening and the Grand Finals on Friday evening.
In the Thursday semi-finals, RGGS Galaxy faced off against RGS Magic in the Open A competition, following a third-place finish in the regular season. The anticipated 2nd versus 3rd showdown lived up to its expectations. Our girls put up a fierce fight, pushing Grammar to the limit. However, it wasn't quite enough, and RGS advanced to the Grand Final.
In the 9B competition, RGGS White competed against RGS Mystics in a match that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Our team started strong, leading in the first quarter. RGS found their rhythm by the second quarter, closing the gap. By the end of the third quarter, the game was tied, setting the stage for a thrilling finish. The lead swapped back and forth as both teams fought hard. In the end, RGS managed to secure a narrow victory, winning 20-18 at the final siren.
The Year 8 team had an impressive undefeated run through the rounds and entered the semi-finals confidently. They faced Glenmore and, despite a commendable effort from Glenmore, our girls emerged victorious with a 20-10 win, securing their spot in the Grand Final.
Friday night saw a vibrant display of blue and gold pom-poms, streamers, and tutus as the crowd rallied behind the RGGS team in their clash against TCC. Under the guidance of Miss Lacoste, the girls delivered a dominant performance, claiming the title of Rockhampton 8C Champions with an 18-5 victory. Ella Lewis was named Player of the Final.
A heartfelt thank you to all our players, coaches, and umpires for their dedication throughout the interschool competition. Your efforts are deeply appreciated. A special thanks also goes out to our supporters for creating an incredible atmosphere on Thursday and Friday. You truly made it a memorable experience for our teams.
Year 4 – Year 12 Athletics Carnival
The Girls Grammar War Cry kicked off our Year 4 - 12 Athletics Carnival on Monday at the CQ University oval. It was a perfect day for athletics, with the girls demonstrating their skills and determination for house supremacy.
Track events were thrilling, with students showcasing incredible speed. The relay races were particularly spectacular, with seamless teamwork and precise baton exchanges. Field events were equally impressive, featuring powerful long jumps, high jumps, and shot put and discus throws. The electric atmosphere was amplified by the students' cheers, celebrating personal achievements and fostering camaraderie.
We had some impressive efforts with new records being set. Well done to the following girls:
Kaylyn Mosby set a new 15 Years high jump record. The old record was 1.36m set in 2003. The new record is 1.45m.
In the 9 Years 200m, the old record of 44.10 fell to Tiffany Walker with a time of 37.87.
Havana McConachy set a new 13 Years Triple Jump record with a leap of 8.61, breaking thew old record set in 1992 of 8.48m.
The Year 12 Day Girls vs Boarders Tug-of-War, a carnival highlight, saw the day girls get the win. They will enjoy a cake baked by Mrs Krehlik as their prize.
Another highlight was 'The Gift', a handicap race featuring the fastest 100m runners from each age group. This year, the youngest competitor, Olivia Atkinson, won impressively. A photo finish determined second place, with Jalime Wosomo narrowly edging out Isabel Briault for third.
With the Prep - Year 3 carnival scheduled for next Monday and some results pending, Age Champions and Athletics Champion House will be announced at the Week 10 assemblies.
