Rockhampton Girls Grammar School Represented at Australian Rowing Championships

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

Georgia and Calli travelled to Champion Lakes in Western Australia in the last week of Term 1 to compete at the Australian Rowing Championships.

Across the week of competition, Calli competed in ten races and Georgia in seven races. Now if you have ever rowed, you will know that competing in this many 2000m races over this space of time is quite the achievement, how the girls could even lift themselves out of the boat at the finish is beyond me!

In the U19 women’s single skull Georgia placed 2nd in her heat, 2nd in the repechage and 5th in the quarter final.

In the U17 women’s single skull Calli placed 3rd in her heat, 1st in the repechage, 4th in the semi-final, which then took her through to the B final, placing 4th.

Both Calli and Georgia were in the Schoolgirls single skull event. After successful heats and quarter finals Georgia placed 2nd in her semi-final and went through to the C final where she finished 5th.

Calli took a little longer route having to go through a repechage to get into the semi-finals where she finished 5th. This was good enough to get her through to the D final where she placed 2nd.

It is such a big achievement to have our girls placing in heats and making finals on the National stage. Well done Calli and Georgia!
