Interschool Netball Grand Final Success
The busy interschool netball season comes to close this week with the Grand Finals played on Thursday. Girls Grammar were well represented with the Year 8 and Year 9 teams making their respective Grand Finals.
Both teams were very dominant in the pools, going through undefeated in the round games. Their success was not to end there with just as impressive semi-final appearances. The Year 8 team played Rockhampton State High School and came out victorious with a 34 – 9 scoreline. The Year 9 team weren’t to be outdone with a 28 – 5 win over North Rockhampton State High School.
With great atmosphere and a huge Girls Grammar crowd, our girls were ready for a big finale. Coming up against Emmaus Blue, the Year 8 team were unsure what to expect as this team had come from another pool to make their way into the Grand Final. Spirits were high and teamwork was flawless as the Girls Grammar team took an early lead and fought hard all game to continue pulling ahead, taking out the match 24 to 7. Player of the Grand final went to Niamh Goldman for her control of the mid-court and smooth transitions down court.
Polywonga was in fine form getting the crowd into cheering spirit before the Year 9 game against Rockhampton State High School. It was a close contest to start with our girls going down by one in the first quarter. They fought hard to come back in the second going to the break with a 1 point lead. With the sharp shooting attack end barely missing a shot and a tight defence end getting intercepts throughout the third quarter, our girls were well in control of the game. The fourth quarter was another close contest, but the damage had been done in the third, with our girls taking out the win 23 to 14. Player of the Grand Final went to Charlotte Curtis for her intercepts and constant reoffering to work the ball down court.
I would like to congratulate Sophie Shaw and Bethanie Green on being selected to umpire Grand Final matches. A big thank you also goes to all the umpires that volunteered to cover duties throughout the competition, I really appreciate your help each week.
Thank you to all our coaches for your efforts throughout the term, I know the girls appreciate your time and you make my job much easier.

Capricornia Representation
Congratulations to Dale Lewis on her Capricornia Rugby 7s representation. Dale went to Hervey Bay from 19 - 21 May to compete in the State Championships. With a limited preparation, the Capricornia team worked hard to develop their Rugby 7s team play over the three day carnival. Dale was one of the more experienced players in the team and her on-field work ethic and off-field leadership saw her awarded the Capricornia Player of the Carnival.
Charlie Mallyon and Rose Brandon represented Rockhampton District at the Capricornia Cross Country trials on Tuesday this week. After very successful RDS trials, both Rose and Charlie have continued their success with both girls placing 6th in their respective age divisions. This placing resulted in selection in the Capricornia Cross Country team to attend the State Titles in Hervey Bay in July. Well done girls and good luck in Hervey Bay.
