RDS Cross Country Trials
The Girls Grammar Cross Country team headed over to the touch fields on Tuesday to compete in the RDS Trials. After completing their walk around the track to get a feel for the course, the 24 strong team set about going through their warm-up and race preparations, which were much needed in the cold morning breeze.
The support for each other was great to see with the girls cheering each other on as races went right past the team tent. The girls also did a great job at supporting the multiclass runners from other schools and the comments from other schools about our wonderful attitudes was a testament to each and every Girls Grammar girl there.
It was a successful day with girls beating their own records and placings from previous years, with many Girls Grammar runners finishing in the top 15. Our most notable performances were Rose Brandon and Charlie Mallyon.
Congratulations to Rose who won her race by a significant margin, making her the 2023 12 Years Rockhampton District Age Champion. Rose looked so good crossing the finish line that she could have easily handled running an extra kilometre or two.
Congratulations also goes to Charlie Mallyon who placed 3rd in the 17 Years event.
These wonderful results will now see Rose and Charlie head to the Capricornia trials on Tuesday next week and we wish the girls the best of luck. We also had two athletes selected as shadows with their finishes; Makenzi Cullen placed 8th in the 15 Years and Ryleigh Walton placed 10th in the 13 Years event. Great results girls.
Senior Oztag and Senior Touch Semi Finals
Last week saw the end of the Season 1 Ladies Oztag Competition with two out of our three Girls Grammar teams making the semi-finals. Congratulations to Hipsters in the ladies A grade competition and Taglines in the ladies D grade competition for their achievements throughout the season. It is such a big achievement for our teams to be making finals playing in the ladies’ competition, so well done to all teams on your development throughout the season.
The Rockhampton Senior Touch Competition has also played their last round of games for Season 1. Congratulations to RGGS Gold on a successful season finishing in 4th place in B grade ladies and making it through to the semi-finals next week. Good luck to the team as they take on Rebels in the knockout semi.
