Term 4 Highlights: Health and Physical Education at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School

A Splashing Good Time for Prep Students

The Prep students were thrilled to dive into their first swimming lessons with Miss Hawkswood and Mr Fuller. Each week, their excitement was unmistakable, with joyful squeals echoing as they headed to the pool. Swimming quickly became a much-anticipated highlight of their schedule!

Swimming Skills in Full Swing

Students from Years 1 to 3 embraced their Learn to Swim lessons, while those in Years 4 to 6 focused on refining their techniques in freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Teamwork and lifesaving skills were also honed through engaging water games. We look forward to seeing their progress when the girls return to the pool in 2025!

Year 7 Explores Growth and Culture

In PE, Year 7 students explored the stages of human development and how physical activity evolves with age. Their practical sessions included learning and teaching traditional Indigenous games, which not only encouraged active participation but also deepened their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

First Aid and Team Sports for Year 8

Year 8 students began their first aid journey, focusing on the Emergency Action Plan and the treatment of common sports injuries. On the field, they sharpened their batting, running, and bowling skills through tee ball and cricket, fostering both individual skill development and teamwork.

Advanced Rescue Skills in Year 9

This term, Year 9 students advanced their lifesaving, CPR, and rescue skills. By applying their knowledge to real-life scenarios, they learned to assess situations and select the most effective actions. We’re hopeful that even more girls will join the Surf League next year to showcase their skills.

Year 10 Tackles Sport Psychology

Year 10 students delved into the fascinating world of sport psychology, exploring how mental training techniques can enhance athletic performance. By studying six key practices, they developed personal strategies to excel in sports like Netball, AFL, and Golf.

Ethical Dilemmas and Leadership for Senior Students

As we bid farewell to our Year 12 PE students, the Year 11 girls stepped up to tackle their first Year 12 task. They investigated ethical challenges in sports, focusing on Girls Grammar activities. Through research and policy analysis, they proposed thoughtful strategies to address issues in school and representative competitions. Their insights were both innovative and inspiring.
