Triumph and Team Spirit: Under 14 Girls Grammar Team Reflect on the Red Rooster Junior Touch Carnival

Girls Grammar was proudly represented by our Under 14s team at the Red Rooster Junior Touch Carnival. Despite the scorching weather, our team of nine girls came together with determination and grit, competing fiercely in all five games.

The weekend started strong with three games on Saturday. In our first match, we dominated with an 8-0 victory. Isabel was unstoppable, scoring five tries with her impressive speed, while Laine and Payton added to the tally to secure a fantastic win to kick off the carnival. Ella almost brought the total to nine, diving with all her might, unfortunately though it was at the wrong line - giving us all a good laugh!

Game two was a tougher match against a team made of many local rep players. We scored first with a well-executed passing play, creating an overlap and sending Isabel flying down the sideline for another thrilling try. This impressive team effort took the opposition by surprise and raised the energy. Despite the intense heat, our girls battled hard, keeping the scoreline respectable against strong competition.

In game three, Laine and Isabel once again showcased their speed to score in what turned out to be a close contest. The referees were sharp, awarding us penalties and chances, but the opposition’s defence held strong, and we narrowly missed out on another win.

Sunday morning saw us take on Rebels Black in game four. Despite the heat, we managed a 2-all draw, keeping our spirits high for the final game at 1.30pm. After a team talk, we agreed that strong defence, numbering up and sliding as a unit, would be key to our success.

In the Division 8 grand final against Wolfpack Grey, we executed this plan perfectly, allowing only one try. We pushed hard in attack, tying the score 1-all, and in the dying seconds of the game, we scored again to secure a thrilling 2-1 victory.

It was a weekend filled with teamwork, laughter, and a few too many lollies, and we couldn’t be prouder of the way our girls played. Thank you to Mrs Doherty and Mrs Housman for coaching us for the weekend, and congratulations to our team for an incredible carnival!
