Welcome back everyone to a new and exciting school year. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new staff, students and families who are joining Girls Grammar in 2021. I feel privileged to be one of these people and cannot thank the Girls Grammar community for making me feel so welcome throughout my first fortnight.
As the Deputy Principal - Students I will be overseeing the Pastoral Care aspects of the school. This encompasses the Care Program, Sisters and Houses, Camps, Tours and Excursions. Those excursions that are of an academic nature will be overseen by Dr Fry. If you have any queries or concerns about your daughter’s wellbeing regarding any aspects of her education here at Girls Grammar, I encourage you to contact me via phone or email at KaraKrehlik@rggs.qld.edu.au.
As we head into a new school year, some things can be quite daunting and challenging for students and families. Here at Girls Grammar we place great importance on balancing our girls’ academic, co-curricular and wellbeing so they may all flourish. Through our quality pastoral care program called ‘Care’, we nurture students’ wellbeing in a safe, supportive and inclusive school environment so our young girls can become resilient, confident and life long learners.
Research shows that resilient and confident students not only perform better academically but are more likely to develop and maintain healthy, positive relationships and make responsible lifestyle choices.
There are many ways families can support their child’s mental health and wellbeing, including:
providing a safe, stable and supportive home environment
creating a supportive community around your child, including family and close friends
modelling positive and effective communication, problem solving and conflict resolution
teaching your child how to express and manage their feelings and emotions
developing routines and consistency.
I look forward to welcoming your daughters back and meeting as many of you as possible over the coming weeks.
Happy Term 1 everyone.
Kara Krehlik
Deputy Principal - Students
