
In December 2022, Rockhampton Girls Grammar Year 12 student Claire Sloan was selected as one of twenty Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) student ambassadors.
Claire was selected as the only 2023 ambassador from the Rockhampton region.
"This program allows me to participate in activities over 12 months that will increase my understanding of the resources sector, provide opportunities for networking with other students and industry representatives, and develop leadership skills," she said.
During the program Claire has visited the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus, she was invited onto a tour of
CORE Pilot Plant, as well as Hastings
Deering Acacia Ridge, InterGen,
and Glencore Technologies.

She was also invited to attend the QMEA Annual Celebration Breakfast.
"This program has given me insight into the resources sector and how I can achieve my future career goals as I complete my final year of high school education," she said.

Claire selected for Girls Mentoring Program
In Early March, Claire was selected for the Girls Mentoring program with the

Queensland Resources Council (QRC) and Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ).
This program connects female students in their final year of high school with experienced women in the resources sector.
"These knowledgeable industry representatives guide us mentees on potential career paths while helping us build essential professional and life skills," said Claire.
"Through this program I was invited to attend the QRC's and WIMARQ's 2023 International Women’s Day Breakfast.
"I was able to celebrate the outstanding contribution of women and men across the resources sector towards making their workforce more diverse and inclusive," said Claire.

Director of Secondary and Teacher of Digital Technology, Science and Chemistry Christie Dey attended the Brisbane event with Claire.
"It was a good opportunity for the girls to hear from some great speakers and to see the awards that were handed out.
"It was great to see Claire holding her own whilst talking to a HR manager from one of the big mining companies," said Mrs Dey.
